Epilepsy Training delivered by highly experienced Registered Nurses in Essex

 

Initial Epilepsy Awareness & Buccal Midazolam Training (6 hours)

For anyone who provides care or support to individuals with epilepsy and may be required to administer buccal midazolam for prolonged seizures.

This course will provide you with a full understanding of epilepsy, the different seizure types and the impact epilepsy has on learning and behaviour.

Training also includes the use of emergency medication for prolonged seizures (buccal midazolam) and sets out the principles and safety aspects that relate to administration. A practical demonstration on how to give emergency medications will be carried out and you will have the opportunity to practice in a simulated situation.

Training includes: 

Refresher Epilepsy Awareness & Buccal Midazolam Training (3 hour)

For anyone who supports a person with epilepsy and may be required to administer buccal midazolam for prolonged seizures; and has previously attended the full day initial training.

This course will update delegates knowledge and skills on epilepsy and seizure management; and in the safe administration of buccal midazolam. A practical demonstration on how to give emergency medication will be carried out and you will have the opportunity to practice in a simulated situation.

Training includes: 

Our fun and interactive programmes are delivered by highly experienced Registered Nurses who have current clinical experience in this field.

A variety of teaching and learning methods are used including interactive group workshops, case studies and video footage of different seizure types is included.

Ongoing assessment is carried out using questioning during training, to ensure safety and delegate understanding.

A Certificate of Attendance is awarded on completion of the course and is valid for 2 years. A refresher course (3 hour) is recommended by ESNA every 2 years as a minimum requirement.

Epilepsy Awareness Talk (90 minutes)

This talk provides a basic introduction to epilepsy and gives practical guidance on how to respond sensitively and effectively to a person who is having a seizure.

Course content:

Video footage of different seizure types is included in the body of the talk demonstrating the less well known and common epilepsies.

A Certificate of Attendance is awarded on completion of the talk and is valid for 2 years

 

Courses are customised to meet your specific requirements and are deliver at your workplace during the day, as a twilight session or at the weekend.
