Managing Medication in Schools (3 hours)

Managing Medication in Schools Accredited Training (3 hours)

Most children and young people will, at some point, require medication to be administered during the school day. This accredited 3-hour face-to-face training programme equips school staff with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed to safely support and administer medicines within the educational setting.

Aligned with the new DfE statutory guidance Supporting Children & Young People with Medical Conditions & Allergies (March 2026 – currently out for consultation), the course supports schools in developing best practice, improving pupil safety, and ensuring staff understand their legal responsibilities.

Training covers health and safety considerations, the safe handling and storage of medicines, administration procedures, accurate record-keeping, and emergency protocols. Participants will also gain an understanding of the different types and routes of medication commonly encountered in schools.

Delivered by highly experienced Registered Nurses, the programme uses a variety of engaging teaching methods including pre- and post-course assessment, case studies, group discussion, and practical demonstrations to maximise learning and confidence.

By the end of the course, staff will have the knowledge and competence required to safely administer medications and effectively support pupils with medical conditions in school.

Suitable for teachers, teaching assistants, support staff, lunchtime supervisors, and trip leaders.
