Epilepsy Awareness, Seizure Management & Buccal Midazolam Training

Epilepsy training course. This accredited 3-hour Epilepsy Awareness and Buccal Midazolam Training course is designed for anyone supporting a person with epilepsy who may be required to administer emergency buccal midazolam for prolonged seizures. Suitable for staff working in adult social care, residential care homes, supported living services, domiciliary care, schools, colleges, and childcare settings.

The course provides delegates with a full understanding of epilepsy, seizure management, and the safe administration of buccal midazolam. Delegates will watch a practical demonstration and work through realistic seizure scenarios designed to build confidence in responding to seizure emergencies.

Competency assessment is carried out throughout the course using interactive group discussion, case studies, video footage demonstrating different seizure types, scenario-based learning, and question-and-answer activities.

This engaging and interactive programme is delivered by highly experienced Registered Nurses with current clinical experience in epilepsy. Our training follows current ESNA, NICE, CQC, DfE & OFSTED guidance and focuses on practical, real-life care alongside the underpinning theory.

Training can include the administration of rectal diazepam and/or rectal paraldehyde upon request.

Training can be delivered in-person at your venue or though live virtual sessions. Courses are tailored to to meet the needs of your organisation and can be scheduled at a date and time that works best for you, including daytime, evening, and weekend sessions.

A certificate of attendance valid for 2 years is awarded on completion of the course. This confirms completion of theoretical training and simulated competency assessment in epilepsy awareness and buccal midazolam administration.

We can also provide best practice guidance and competency documentation, including the ESNA Care Competency Checklist, to support managers with workplace competency assessments, supervision, appraisal processes, quality assurance, and CQC inspection readiness.

This accredited training is delivered via the Zoom platform.

To meet accreditation requirements, all participants must:

  • Keep their camera on for the duration of the session.
  • Be seated and actively engaged (not driving or walking).
