Managing Medication in Schools eLearn

This accredited eLearning programme is designed specifically for school staff responsible for supporting and administering medicines to pupils. The course provides comprehensive training in safe medication management, equipping staff with the knowledge, confidence and practical understanding needed to fulfil their responsibilities within an educational setting.

The programme is designed in line with the Department for Education’s current statutory guidance, Supporting Pupils at School with Medical Conditions (2015), and supports schools in developing safe and effective medication practices, improving pupil safety and reducing the risk of medication errors.

The programme will be reviewed and updated following publication of the Department for Education’s revised Supporting Children and Young People with Medical Conditions and Allergies statutory guidance.

The course provides a clear overview of the responsibilities and requirements surrounding medication management in schools, helping staff understand their individual roles and responsibilities. Participants will develop an understanding of the different types, categories and routes of medicines, alongside practical guidance on the safe handling, storage and administration of medication within the school environment.

The programme also covers accurate documentation and record-keeping, consent, medication errors and the appropriate action to take in an emergency.

By the end of the programme, staff will have developed the knowledge and understanding required to support the safe management and administration of medicines in school, within their role and in accordance with their setting’s policies and procedures.
