First Aid at Work Training for Schools (12 hours plus eLearning module)

This course is suitable for those who need to be First Aiders in the Workplace, in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. It has been specifically tailored to include children and be relevant to the school environment.

Our engaging and interactive First Aid at Work training programme combines two days of focused practical training with 4-6 hours of interactive eLearning.

Extended training on allergy awareness, recognition of allergic reactions, and the identification and treatment of severe allergic reactions is included in the course. A demonstration on how to use an adrenaline auto-injector (EpiPen & Jext) prescribed to treat anaphylaxis reactions, is also part of the training, providing you with the opportunity to familiarise yourself with them, using training devices.

Course syllabus includes:

• Understanding the role of the First Aider, incorporating:
  • The importance of preventing cross infection
  • The necessity for recording incidents and actions
  • The use of available equipment
• Assessing the situation and circumstances to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
• Administering First Aid to an adult, child or baby casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
• Administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation 
• Administering First Aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
• Administering First Aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
• Providing appropriate First Aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters)
• Administering First Aid to a casualty with:
  • Injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries   
  •   Chest injuries
  •    Burns and scalds
  •    Eye injuries
  •    Sudden poisoning
  •    Anaphylaxic shock (extended training for schools)
• Recognising the presence of major illness (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, and providing appropriate first aid.

Certificates are valid for 3 years and are regulated by the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB). Delegates also receive a comprehensive First Aid manual, which can be used to check and refresh knowledge.
