Autism Awareness & Support Training for Schools (2 Hours)
Our Autism Awareness & Support Training for Schools provides staff with a greater understanding of autism and practical strategies to support autistic children and young people within education settings.
Delivered by experienced Autism Specialist Registered Nurses, the training explores how autism can affect communication, social interaction, sensory processing, emotional regulation and a pupil’s experience of the school environment.
The programme takes a practical, strengths-based approach, helping staff understand individual needs, recognise behaviour as a form of communication and make appropriate adjustments that support participation, wellbeing and inclusion.
Training covers:
- Understanding autism and the autism spectrum
- Recognising how autism may present differently between individuals
- Diagnosis and assessment
- Communication and social interaction
- Sensory processing and sensory needs
- Understanding behaviour as communication
- Recognising potential triggers for distress
- Supporting emotional regulation
- Structure, routines and predictability
- Supporting pupils to manage change and transitions
- Practical communication strategies
- Responding to repetitive behaviours and focused interests
- Creating an autism-supportive learning environment
- Supporting independence
- Promoting participation and social inclusion
- Reasonable adjustments and individualised support
- Working in partnership with children, young people and families
The session combines evidence-based knowledge with practical strategies that staff can apply within the classroom and wider school environment.
Certification
Delegates receive a Certificate of Attendance on completion of the training.
